Norconsult Phils. Appoints New President

The International Division of Norconsult, one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary engineering and design consultancy firms founded in 1929 with headquarters in Sandvika, Norway, announced that for the first time, a Filipino has been chosen to serve as President of its subsidiary in the Philippines, a position traditionally held by Norwegian expatriates.

Rodolfo T. Azanza, Jr., a former Director at the Malacañang (Office of the President) who was tasked to oversee Infrastructure Projects for Northern Luzon, and who likewise served as Director for Transport Projects at the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Center, has been appointed to the top post of Norconsult Management Services (Phils), Inc..

Norconsult has about 2,750 employees, of which 750 work outside of Norway in 32 offices all over the world. Based on last year’s report, its annual turnover is 605 million dollars. Since 1971, Norconsult has carried out large design and construction supervision assignments within the country’s transportation and energy sectors. In 1998, the company established Norconsult Management Services in the Philippines. Recently, Norconsult has been engaged in major studies on hydropower, solid waste, and urban planning projects.

Norconsult’s corporate values are based upon good business practice, honesty and respect for other people, and the company has implemented an internal Integrity Programme ensuring that all business activities are in compliance with international laws and standards for ethical business conduct. Norconsult is a member of FIDIC, the international federation of consulting engineers.

Azanza who is expected to steer Norconsult to greater heights in the country, holds a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of South Australia in Adelaide, a BS Economics degree from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, and a management program diploma from the Asian Institute of Management (AIM). He started his career as a member of the NEDA Infrastructure Staff. In 2003, after completing a 12-year stint in the Philippine Government, he joined the Royal Norwegian Embassy-Commercial Section as Market Adviser. For nine years, Azanza served as Country Representative of SN Power, a Norwegian state-owned hydropower investor.
