PNBC DONATES BOOKS AND EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS TO IFUGAO STUDENTS
26 February 2019
While the country was commemorating the People Power Revolution, a team from Norconsult Phils. set out to the Province of Ifugao to bring PNBC’s donation of children’s books, educational videos and some sports equipment to the Cababuyan Elementary School in the Municipality of Hingyon, a neighbouring town of Banaue where the famous rice terraces is located.
The books, videos and sports equipment were turned over by the team to the school principal, Mr. James Nalunne, on 26 February 2019. The books and videos consist of children’s classic stories both of foreign and Filipino authors, and subject matters like science, math and political science and bible stories, among others. Sports equipment include volleyballs and nets and badminton rackets.
PNBC’s donation worth about Php50,000 is part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program in support of the initiatives made towards the Cababuyan community in Ifugao initially by Nils Waerstad and Ronny Kristofferson, popularly known as the “Handlingensmenn” (Men of Action) of NRK1 TV fame in Norway. Nils & Ronny have been providing support to the village of Cababuyan starting with the building of a school library in March 2017 equipped with some laboratory equipment, educational toys (e.g, toy steam engine, wind power, etc.), and some books coming from Norway.
It may be recalled that one of the community’s leader, Mrs. Ermie Bahatan, was PNBC’s guest speaker last Christmas luncheon 2018, where she presented among others the soap-making initiative started by Nils and Ronny for the widows of those who perished from the Itogon Landslide last September 2018. From there, PNBC decided to help out via its education-focused CSR program.
