Suicide Alertness Workshop

PNBC recently hosted a suicide alertness workshop, in cooperation with Mission to Seafarers. The workshop used the SafeTALK model course, delivered by accredited instructors. With over 40 participants, this was another full house.

SafeTALK is a half day face-to-face suicide alertness course that can help people like you make a difference. The workshop helps participants to recognize warning-signs from someone considering suicide. It also teaches what to do if someone is suicidal by following the easy to remember TALK steps – Tell, Ask, Listen and Keep-safe. These practical steps offer immediate help to someone having thoughts of suicide and gives time to connect with more specialized support.

One of the participants shared with us: “Thank you for inviting me to this course. I just realized how badly I needed that.”

Another one said: “I learned how to recognize signs of a suicidal person and how to respond with care.”

PNBC’s President, Carl Martin Faannessen, used his closing remarks to advocate for all member-companies to include this course in a company-event, officer-conference or other setting where taking care of the people around you should be on the agenda.
