Laurence Odfjell partners with HABITAT Philippines in re-building Central Philippines
Mr. Laurence Odfjell, Executive Chairman of the Board of Odfjell SE, has partnered with Habitat for Humanity (HABITAT) Philippines for the Re-build Project for Central Philippines following the vast devastations caused by the 7.2 magnitude Earthquake in Bohol and Super Typhoon Yolanda (International name: Haiyan) in Central Philippines during the third quarter of 2013.
HABITAT Philippines CEO Charlie Ayco and Mr. Odfjell formalized the partnership in a Memorandum of Agreement signing held 30th October 2013.
Responding to the call to re-build
Since 1991, Mr. Odfjell has been a staunch supporter of HABITAT as a site volunteer in various countries in Europe, making homes for the neediest of families. In the wake of the devastation of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Bohol, Philippines, he is the first to respond to HABITAT Philippines’ re-build project with a donation of US$ 10,000 from his personal funds.
He also made an additional donation of US$ 40,000 to aid in the re-build operations for families displaced by Typhoon Yolanda. Mr. Odfjell, in his personal capacity, has pledged his support to HABITAT’s Re-Build Philippines Campaign by providing any available assistance and service to help areas affected by the typhoon.
Giving back to the Filipino seafaring communities
Mr. Odfjell’s partnership with HABITAT Philippines highlights his strong resolve to aid a large number of seafaring families living in areas struck tby these calamities. As an owner of a shipping company employing Filipino sailors, he said helping in the recovery of these communities is an important responsibility.
“This donation is my way of giving back to the seafaring communities which have made Odfjell what it is now. A large group of Odfjell seafarers are from Central Philippines and it is my personal commitment to make a difference in the lives of families in need.” said Mr. Odfjell.
