Last 04 May 2012, the Philippines-Norway Business Council (PNBC) brought 106 elementary-level Reading, Math, and Science books to the Christian City Presbyterian Church in Quezon City to support the school’s church-based educational extension program for 200 indigent children. Dubbed as SMILE, the program is spearheaded by volunteer teachers from the church-based school, who extend their working time to hold the special classes on weekends. By teaching the children basic mathematics, reading and writing skills and some English foundation, it is hoped that they will imbibe the basic tools of literacy and use these to propel themselves forward.
This CSR project of PNBC has been made possible through the partnership and generosity of Wallem Maritime Services, Inc. (WMSI). As one of the leading crew management companies in the country, it has been conferred a Presidential Award of Excellence in 2010 and has been elevated by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to its Hall of Fame for consistently receiving awards for service distinction.
